Elsteel and IEC (BSEN) 61439 Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies - Parts 1 and 2.
Elsteel have embraced the new standard and already undertaken and passed test programmes in support of customers for its uptake over the transitional period. We have also been conducting free information seminars to further assist Techno Module system builders.
For existing customers building Techno Module panels, switchboards and motor control centres this will mean a seamless shift to IEC 61439 as we replace existing type tests under IEC 60439 with the new design verifications tests.
Customers new to Techno Module can be assured that they are entering into a fully compliant modular system supported, as always, by a programme of ongoing type testing.
Elsteel have already completed independent Verification Type Testing at IPH test facility in Berlin with various propriety brand manufacturers' devices.
These tests represent a significant investment and will enable all valued customers to claim full compliance to IEC 61439 parts 1& 2 when built according to Elsteel's standard assembly procedures.
Parts 2 to 6: Product Specific.
• Part 2: Power switchgear & control gear assemblies.(Prev 60439-1)
Part 3: Distribution boards. (Prev 60439-3)
Part 4: Assemblies for construction sites. (Prev 60439-4)
Part 5: Assemblies for power distribution in public networks.(Prev 60439-5)
Part 6: Busbar trunking systems. (Prev 60439-2)
New standard will use :
• 1. Design verification proved to be in accordance with 61439.
• 2. Routine verification to confirm materials and workmanship.
The preferred method of verification will be Type Test. Calculation & derivation will be allowed but with penalty margins.
E.g.
50% Added to clearances if no impulse test carried out.
20% De-rating of components if assembly is not temperature tested.
Designs will be 'portable' and able to be applied globally.
All assemblies connected to prospective short circuit 10kA rms or Cut off 17kA must be type tested or by interpolation from verified design, not higher than the reference design.
Non temperature rise tested assemblies will have 80% rating
Power loss comparisons will be limited to 630 Amp assemblies.
Temperature rise performance by calculation is limited to 1600 Amp. Test or derivation from tested design for higher.
61439-2 includes an annex to assist specifiers, including parameters that should be specified and includes default statements to be used in the absence of any other information.
An excellent Guide to Verification of Low voltage power switchgear and control gear assemblies in accordance to IEC 61439 Part 2 has been published by BEAMA and is available for download at their website www.beama.org.uk
Elsteel UK have conducted a number of
intro to IEC61439 free information seminars
and are would be pleased to organise this
